Fear is Funny, But I’m Funnier

Listen, if fear had a fan club, I was the president, treasurer, and probably the snack coordinator.

I was out here throwing fully-catered anxiety parties with several signature drinks and a  dress code: ‘paralyzed by overthinking, overdoing, overhelping, overcaring.

But plot twist, in late 2024, I fired fear. I told him, “Hey you cutie, you’ve been fun…” but like that ex boyfriend of a particular zodiac you just can’t stand, I finally took it head-on over a few Sauv Blancs and said,  “I’ve got places to go and dreams to chase that don’t involve hiding under my weighted blanket.” And guess what? Fear packed their bags—very dramatically, of course. Fear left in a flurry of self-doubt and excuses, muttering something about how I’ll miss him.

Darling, please. I shant.

Because this is my career rebirth. Cue the glitter cannons. I'm out here, solo and under-caffeinated, finally doing the damn thing I've whispered to myself about for years. The thing that made my heart race—not in the “I’m in love” way, but more like “this might give me the vapors,  but I have to do it anyway.”

Some of you (me too! Me too!)  lean way too into a feeling of comfort. That’s also your toxic ex, fear, and honestly? Also your ego. You have to wake up not knowing the outcome, but rather, focusing on what you will accomplish that day. Your career, your mission, and what you provide to others should, and will, evolve every single day. If that gives you cramps, get out of bed, anyway.

Choosing to start your own career path is a wild combo platter of terrifying and exhilarating—like the time I was starving and ordered an egg roll from a gas station. Probably gave me the same amount of bubble guts.  But underneath the nerves and the Google searches that start with "how do I even...?" there’s a quiet voice saying: You’ve got this.  The only thing even better? When you have a friend to be your accountability partner, your companion in crime, and hopefully she will tell you when your shoes are not working with your outfit. Hey, what are friends, and business partners, for?

And let’s really talk about the fear of the future.

Despite the uncertainty brought on by tariffs and what that means to entrepreneurs everywhere, and the complex, often unpredictable nature of the global economy, it's important not to live in fear of the future. While economic instability can feel overwhelming—especially when financial systems seem difficult to understand—empowering yourself through financial education can make a significant difference. Understanding basic economic principles, how tariffs impact prices and trade, and how to manage personal finances provides the tools needed to navigate uncertain times with confidence. Rather than being paralyzed by fear, individuals can take control of their financial future through knowledge, preparation, and adaptability. In a world of shifting markets, financial literacy isn't just helpful—it's essential for survival.

Also. Turns out, believing in yourself is the hottest glow-up of all time. No Botox needed (but definitely neither confirmed nor denied). I’m so much happier with this messy, scrappy, passionate version of me who finally said “yes” to herself, and learning that it doesn’t mean “no” to a family, or a very fulfilling life.

So, if you're out there waiting for the stars to align or for fear to politely exit stage left—spoiler: he won’t leave unless you throw his ass out on the streets—here’s your sign.

Do the thing.

Love yourself loud.

Be reborn, be joyously imperfect, be you.
